i guess, it's not the first time, someone asks about taht, but i didn't find any thread.

so, i got used to a lot of ... questionable usabilty decision on nokia's part, but a while ago i learned, that the volume control buttons switch function depending on turning control -- what usually decreases volume will now increase and vice versa, simply depending on the angle you hlod it.

apparently one of the resident geniusses at nokia thought it would be a good idea to leave the user in doubt what the volume control actually will do ...

anyway, simple question: is there a way to disable this stupid behaviour? i expect the volume control to work the same way independent of the way i hold the phone.

it makes sence in my eyes that depending on which way you hold the phone depends on which way the volume keys work?

imo. hold it landscape has the normal effect
holding it verticly pressing up makes it go up!!!

simples.........

why would you want the volume keys upside down in portrait mode? portrait mode is intended for one hand operation and thus, +/- is mapped to up/down.

so, you think it makes sense, that the button you learned to decrease volume suddenly increases? probably you think it wil be ok, if your car's accelerator and brake switch while driving through hills?

i hold the phone to my ear and button A increases vol -- now, i slightly tilt the phone and, swoop, button A decreases. so, when i want to change the volume, i have to look first, in what position the phone is?

and btw: the question was not, if anyone thinks it makes sense, but how to get rid of it.

Well, usually for people who read left-right I think it's intuitive that left is less and right is more..

Likewise I'd think it's intutive that up turns volume up and down turns volume down..

IIRC this was reported as bug to bugzilla and then it was changed to current behavior

I reported this long ago, and it was marked as wontfix. I use phone in portrait only now to get around this behaviour.

Why would you think its a bug????????

if the screen auto rotates when you turn the phone from landscape to portrait is that a bug?? NO. it makes perfect sense that the volume keys would follow suite? or am i missing something?

it doesn't make sense but landscape mode have always had - / + -arrangement in maemo devices. probably no-one thought about that when going partly portrait.
