Folks,

I have been fiddling with this N800 for the last 6hrs straight since I opened the new box yesterday. Downloaded Canola, Xterm, Pidgin.

Could someone help me with Configuring Canola to read media from my NAS. I even turned on my UnPnp Server on my modded xbox and set up picture and music share...

Ive no idea how to go about mapping to the contents on my NAS and xbox.
So far, the only way Ive been able to view a pic fro my NAS is my typing NAS Ipaddress and manually clicking the file from its directory structure..
THis blows coz I knwo canola has wonderful picture viewer and media player stuff. I would like it to pick up media automatically from NAS and Xbox..

I am a newbie. Where is the manual for canola configuration....

PLease someone advice...

You should mount the share somewhere in /home/user/MyDocs/some-folder.

Warning: when canola scans the database, which it will do whenever you power the device on or off or insert a memory card so something of that sort, it will take about 30 min. i have my 770 mount an external usb drive, it takes forever to scan it (if anyone knows a way to make it faster plz let me know.)

If you want more info look here:
http://linux.seindal.dk/2005/12/01/e...the-nokia-770/

And you will also go into the web interface for configuring canola and tell it to look in /home/user/MyDocs/some-folder.

ok. So mounting obviously is not a solution if it takes 30 Mins. I tried to use the Browser interface to access my Simpleshare 500GB NAS. Works fine to read docs (painfully slow). It wont play Mp3. I guess the transfer rate is too slow for it to work.

I am considering these options...

1. Install Orb and hope N800 finds the server. How to make Canola see Orb on PC? If not I am forced to use MediaStreamer to detect Orb.

2. Turn on xbox xbmc Upnp Server and hope that Mediastreamer or Canola detect it. Has anyone done this? I tried but it wont detect it..

Without mounting, I take it that Canola is not an option for streaming media...right?

Any help appreciated

yha, xbmc upnp server works great for me. it can stream music and video as long as the connection is good.

Ahhh..finally I realized the full potential of Canola. Installed ORB on my PC. Canola picked it up instantly and I was able to view all my shares including the Share on my PC pointing to my NAS.

Streaming experience was great. Much better than accessing via MyCast.orb which was choppy. BUt if one were to access shares from outside of home network, mycast.orb will be very useful. Especially sharing my orb to other friends.

Question regarding Canola...I have movie rips sitting on the share. While mycast.orb recognized the .vob files and played with the mediaplayer (Choppy) , canola did not recognoze the VOB files. Any idea how to get this working? I wonder if this is a limitation within canola

Thanks
V
