Hello everyone,

I have owned my N810 for about a week now and I've been having some problems that I'm sure most of you have seen by now and know how to fix. I say that because I've searched for many of these and couldn't find any solutions on this site. I also want to say that this is the very first piece of equipment that I've owned which runs on Linux so I won't be surprised to hear that some of my problems are just due to ignorance. Anyways, moving right along, here is a listed of things that I would really appreciate some help on.

1) For some reason I keep getting the error message telling me the operation has been canceled due to low system memory. I've looked in my control panel and memory panel and it shows I've only got 27.9MB of system memory, 1.60 GB of internal memory and 944.0 MB of removable memory available. When I checked these numbers it was right after a reboot with no applications running. I don't have any programs installed besides a couple of notepads, a weather application and a clock, also, my removable memory is actually a 2GB card that is empty so I'm not sure what that's all about.

2) The applets I've got running are the clock, the weather app and that's it. The unit randomly decides not to display these at all and if I go to enable them again, it doesn't make a difference.

3) My email (a POP3 account that I setup) sometimes works but most of the time it only shows the account but no folders and does not receive my email.

4) When I try to stream a podcast it plays it at two times the speed. The podcast works on my laptop just fine. The podcast can be found at www.stoppodcastingyourself.com and there is a little slim "player" under each section. This is a great podcast btw, very funny.

So far that is it for problems. I do have a question on how to run xm radio from the internet, but I'll post a new thread for that one.

Thank you so much for any help you can provide, I appreciate your time.

uhh i think there's a page file, but it might not be turned on by default. make sure it is.
not sure about your other problems, but there's lots of mail clients. either try a different one or give us some more details, like which one you're using now...
the podcast playing at the wrong speed sounds like a codec issue, there might be an updated codec pack or something you need

Yeah, most people find that the N810's 128MB RAM is not quite enough for real usage. You probably want to create and enable a swap file (via Settings -> Control panel > Memory -> Virtual).

If you're feeling adventurous you can also give ramzez a try.

2) The applets I've got running are the clock, the weather app and that's it. The unit randomly decides not to display these at all and if I go to enable them again, it doesn't make a difference.
This probably means that one of the applets has crashed hildon-desktop, and as a safety feature it restarts without them enabled. Applets are implemented as shared objects that run in the same process space as hildon-desktop for performance reasons, but this also amplifies instability when badly written ones are used :-(

Sounds like a little memory left to just have those apps installed.
If you're comfortable doing so I'd recommend starting out by re-flashing and see if your problem persists...then start adding apps.

Also, for podcast I like gPodder and Panucci.

By default the N810 stores all data in main memory, in File Manager the N810 device. Move all data to internal or external memory. The Maps application is a big hog of main memory. You can move it's maps. That should get you started. I've lots of aps and have had my N810 for a long time. My main memory is over 110MB free and I don't use swap space. Using swap space makes your internal 2GB unavailable to your PC when connected by USB cable.

Hey, thanks a lot for the reply guys. I think it sounds like I should flash this unit and try from scratch, I did buy it used, so who knows what the state of it is. I'll post again once I find out more.

Cheers,

Sorry for the delayed response, I'm sure you were all on the edge of your seats and loosing sleep over this, so I figured I better do a follow up

I re-flashed the device and it took care of everything. My memory is now practically empty and I no longer get those error messages.

Thanks for all the help!
