this funny idea just came to me, there is alot of themes which use different slide to unlock balls e.g. champions league uses a football and other themes.
so what if we can exchange this ball with a face like urs or a friend of urs, is it possible ?

Take a picture of your face. Edit in photoshop, Artweaver, GIMP, (even MS Paint can work) to cut out whatever parts (neck, background) etc you don't want, leaving the remaining background transparent - then save as LockSliderThumb.png. (This is case sensitive.)

Find your respective theme folder: /opt/usr/share/themes/ or /home/opt/usr/share/themes - depending on what version the theme is and when it came out, it'll get saved to different places on the N900. Copy to [your theme's folder]/images. To copy, either use x-term as root, "cp [where you actually have file] [where it needs to go]", or use a file manager that has root access.

There's no program that will recognize your face, cut out the rest, and do it for you, though.

Edit: Forgot a somewhat important note - resize the image to 148 x 94 pixels. (I think that's what it is.)

You want to slide the N900 screen along your face to unlock it? It's a bit unconventional but I guess it'll work.

You need an application to replace an image file?

C'mon son.

When you can code it, you can get an app for it.

hawaii, the funny thing is most people do want an app to replace image files. I mean, at the end of the day, that's why we have the theme customizer app (changes around font files), transition control apps/settings options to save people fiddling through the transitions.ini, ApMeFo to edit the .menu files for subfolders, etc. People are lazy and don't want to learn - a GUI makes them not have to do that thinking and learning thing that's so unpleasant.

To be fair, IF we had an app that did face recognition from photo, cut everything else out and replaced it with transparent pixels, shrunk it to the smaller size and stuck it in for you - yeah, that would make life easier. But honestly, if you're writing a face recognition capable program, you might as well start implementing a 'face scan' feature to unlock the phone, sliders and numerical code be damned.
