partly happened to me.

i put on 2 movies and 1 episode of an anime.
the movies were found and would play through the media player, but the anime-episode wouldnt show up.
it does show up from the file-manager though and i can play it with the mediaplayer through the filemanger as well.
its just not showing up directly in the media player.

all of the file are avi-files.

a) left it overnight to index
b) 40 images and 12 videos, all under 5 mins (music clips)
c) no cpu hog, cpu was at 2-3%. Desktop switching was choppy, at like 5 fps and every second or two it froze for maybe 300 ms.

Pretty sure it was a fluke, just throwing my experience out there.

I am having the same problem ever since the 1.1 reflash. I have run through this procedure several times, many reboots, etc, but nothing works. It claims to be scanning media for about 2 1/2 minutes (have about 4-5 gig of mp3s on sdcard) but nothing ever shows up in the media player (including the default stuff still on the emmc). Canola and mediabox both find and play media just fine.
All media was present and playable before the firmware upgrade, and no changes have been made to the media on the sd or emmc since.
Nothing in the tracker log either.
Any ideas?

...I also got a problem since the latest 1.1 update.

1) Mediaplayer shows double, triple or even quadruple copies of certain songs (not all songs are affected) after the update, whereas before the update, everything was fine.

2) Sometimes the Mediaplayer doesn't show albums ("no albums found") or no videos. Restarting the Mediaplayer helps sometimes, from time to time however, only a complete reboot will help.

Is there already a bug report for this or has anyone a suggestion how to solve these problems ?

Best regards.

The built in media player is a bad, bad joke. It doesn't even have a directory browse mode (i.e. please play all the songs in this directory). I know of very few people who have well enough organized mp3 metadata tags to make the crawled mode of much use. The n900 has the potential to be an AMAZING convergence device, but this is yet another feature where Nokia seems to have done just enough to tick off the bullet point. Quality of implementation matters.

Canola is much, much better for my music playback needs, even if it is in an extremely alpha-ish state on the N900. I really wish the authors would provide another update, as it has been a couple months now.

I really want to like Canola, but I dont think it is ever going to be any good. The reason being that it doesnt seem to play well with the N900's basic features. How do you switch apps while it is open?

merkur2k: this is how you multitask from a fullscreen app
a) install camkeyd to use camera key to task switch
b) push ctrl+esc

I had a similar problem yesterday.
I got sick of the app manager's "not enough free space in app install memory" and filled the /home with "Faster application Manager" up to the point where I was left with 0kB free in /home.
Then I freed up 35 megs and thought that it's ok, but then I realised that media player shows no songs, no videos...
Tried the tracker restart and everything with no change.
Then I freed some more room to total free space in /home of about 85 MB and the media player started showing all my media as present.
just my $ .02
