Hey everyone was wondering if there was a program that could start up programs after the desktop loaded... So that i could get programs like canola to start right away so that my n800 could be an media player right away with out exposing the computer like features! dont ask why...

If there isn’t a program that can do that is there any other way mabe an init script?

A home screen applet could do this quite easily. If you're a programmer with the maemo sdk you could write one in half an hour. If not, I could write it when I get half an hour to waste

I will ask why you can't just leave canola running and lock the touchscreen. Loading canola after the desktop loads would expose a computer-like desktop. Also, if you run canola immediately after loading the desktop it will lock while the database is refreshed.

If you lock canola while viewing images the screen will come on after a minute and drain the battery. You should experiment a little before putting it in your pocket. I think leaving it on the canola home screen is safe.

I just don't like the desktop especially the navagation bar i wish the design was simpiler. like flux box but yea if you got a chance make the app.

Maybe I should have said two hours for the app, but here it is. You want autohome-applet_0_armel.deb. The other file is a standard tar.gz archive of the source code with a .deb extension added.

This is basically a modified hello-world home applet. It run the script "/home/user/.auto" when the app is loaded. This happens at startup or when the applet is enabled. The 10 second delay is used so canola doesn't launch immediately and cancel the layout editor when you enable it. Wait more than 10 seconds in the layout editor and you'll see why.

This program is a hack!!! Use at your own risk!

Also, there is the Canola applet which lets you run canola with only a single tap.
