Hey guys, long time lurker ever since I got my N900 and haven't had the need to post until now.

I'm experiencing a charging problem, I bought my N900 in February this year from the US (I live in Australia) and ever since then it has charged flawlessly with the US charger and an adapter, now tonight it refuses to charge. This has happened before but I just took out the charger and put it back in and it worked fine.

Now, i've done various tests and read some posts here on the forum.

I've gone into X-Terminal and plugged in lshal -m and then plugged the charger in, the device detects it being plugged in but it doesn't charge it. I unplug it and it detects it being removed, I then plugged it in via USB to my laptop (I'm aware that it may not have enough power to charge it but ill try on my desktop tomorrow morning) and it detects the same thing, being plugged in and out but no sign of communication between the devices (I have been able to browse my N900 on this laptop in the past, only a few weeks ago) I don't get a prompt on the N900 to choose the mode I want to use it in either.

I then turned it off, I plugged in it via the wall charger and it detected it, it booted up with the dimmed Nokia screen and I saw the yellow charging light go on. It went on for about 2 seconds and then the device tried to turn itself on, it flashes green for about a millisecond and then starts to boot up. It gets to the loading screen with the little dots and switches itself off and then does the cycle all over again.

I then tried changing plugs (it's on a power board) and that didn't work, so I changed the power source, that didn't work either (obviously).

What I gathered was that it seems to be a software problem.. I can replicate the loop anytime so it's not a faulty/loose port. My N900 was the better batch so it seems i'm okay.

I then thought maybe installing the power kernal may change the configuration and possibly change communications between the USB port and the device, installed, rebooted and still nothing so I uninstalled it..

Right now it's sitting on my bedside table unplugged and off, I took the battery out and am going to try a mini reset (where it prompts date/time) in the hope that may work.

I also downloaded apps to check the charging status (battery-eye and Health Check) both do not detect it being plugged in/charging.

It worked fine last night and I haven't installed any new apps since then (aside from the two mentioned above) so I don't know that there would be a reason for it to start acting up.

Any insight appreciated.. This phone seems horribly unfinished. I kind of regret buying it over a Android variant but at the time it was the best phone available. If this problem keeps up it may have an early retirement.

Thanks guys.

I'm having odd battery issues recently too: It's not as bad as yours, but as of a few days ago, it will not show itself as being done charging - it just keeps blinking yellow, on-off, on-off. Conky will report 100% battery after I unplug it after a night of charging, so I know it's just not stopping the charge and trying to over-charge the battery... Which is slightly annoying. At any rate, if Icould help you, I would.

At this stage, if your problem is making this unusable for you, I'd just reflash. For me the process was reasonably painless.

Though if you can afford to, I'd wait a bit to see if anyone else more experienced pipes up with helpful information.
