N900 is about the worst platform to program for if you want money.
You should consider Symbian/iPhone/Android if you want money.

Arif is correct, the N900 is an appalling platform to programme for, partly it's future with Meego being the chosen path, so make sure what you do is Meego based, not Maemo. Mainly however Linux is free, so the repositories are filled with free stuff. I wouldn't pay for anything on the N900 as there is most likely something for free if you just want to pass the time. I don't use it for a games system because of the limits with the phone.

Nice suggestion. This is very doable. But on wikipedia I see that "tower defense" is a registered trade mark. Does this mean just the name? Or can I be sued for creating something with the equivalent game play?
