Hi I've been researching this phone for over a year and thought it was great but I felt some new nokia device would come out soon which would be the N9.

I was going to buy it after it's release, but then I heard of the new FW PR.1.3 soon to be released for the N900 with Meego support. I decided to go and buy the N900 so I could get a taste of what the N9 might be like. I've now had it for 2 todays now....

1.My battery is very strange, I opened up the phone at 1:15 and it was about at 90% with no updating widgets, brightness at 2, no wifi.

I browsed a bit online switching between 2g and 3g a few times for about 40 min it was down to 75% hmmm

Later I browsed a bit more for about 45 min again and then saw it was at 55% by 5:15.

5:29 I restart the phone now its 42% then goes up to 46% so my question is why is the battery draining so fast from that 15min of being idle between 515-530 and why it went from 90%-55% so fast?

2.I downloaded the game open arena i managed to stop the auto run and shoot and accelerometer run from the config but during gameplay i can look left and right with the accelerometer but not up and down, is there anything i can do to fix this?

3.I have the fast app manager but i've been getting kgbp errors when installing apps and unistalling but it seems to do it right even with the display the error.

Thanks alot if u can help.

First off welcome aboard...

A few questions.:

Did you buy it new?

If so, how much total run time has the battery had?

How many times has it been charged fully?

Hello and welcome to maemo.org. You need to calibrate your battery by discharging and fully charging it couple of times. And the battery kinda sucks on n900. So, don't expect anything after calibration. 2G/3G/GSM is a radio transceiver and it drains a lot of power. Also, when reception is crappy, it will drain even more power. Was 3G on when it was idle ?

Cellular usage is very power hungry. 40minutes on Cellular drained to 75% is not too bad. You got to count other factors like multiple applications opened at the same time, a web site that have FLASH contents like Youtube..etc. And CPU cycle of your device, if your CPU is high then your device will be low on power faster as well. Also consider reflashing your device and eMMC so you get a fresh start if you bought it Secondhand.

Let's hope it fix some of your problems.

It varies. Usually it lasts around 24 hours. I never used 3G on my n900, but I use wifi frequently. GSM is only used for voice. And yes, losing lots of battery charge on reboot is normal

Check your IMEI in Nokia website to see if it's already over warranty. If it's the case it's pretty well worn.

I wondered if you've wrong concept of flashing - all apps previously installed by user should have been wiped out after flashing, how come you still found some unwanted apps after flashing? How did you flash your device?

Provided that you flash your device correctly (flashing via USB in flashing mode blah blah), you're reminded to flash your eMMC as well as the ROM. That would erase the data, but you don't need them for a device you've just bought.

Last but not least, switching of 3G/2G does consume huge amount of power. Therefore, sometime it's more power-efficient to lock the band to either 3G or 2G in order to avoid auto-switching. Of course, it might not be feasible for some region but it's a power saving tip.

In addition to what was said above you might cosider installing this; AutoDisconnect I have found it has helped increase the battery life on my N900.
I discovered 3G to be a real battery killer, when at home connected to the WLAN and idle I was getting far more time than when I was connected to 3G at work under the same conditions- this app when configured correctly through the easy to use menu will downgrade an idle connection to save power.

I have aslo found this application to be useful in figuring out whats draining my battery, batterygraph.

Welcome the N900 club - I hope that after a small period of adjustment you will be amazed at the versitility of this tiny device on a daily basis, as I still am.
