I've long looked at the Nokia Internet Tablets, and thought they look like great gadgets. Now that the N810 is out, I expect prices on the 770 and N800 will drop a bit, and I may consider getting one. But first, I must know a couple things about the gadgets.

1. Is there a good, usable port of Abiword on the N800 or 770? I've read at various places that it doesn't work very well. If not, is there another decent word processor for these devices.

2. What kind of bluetooth keyboards will work with these devices?

I'm interested in using one of these as a laptop replacement type device, and I need to be able to take notes in my college classes on a word processor with a keyboard.

I picked up a cheap N770 and a Nokia SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard for exactly this purpose. Unfortunately it didn't work out -- while there is an easily downloadable driver for the keyboard, once it's paired to the N770 it times out WAY too quickly to be of any practical use... Maybe it's better with the N800?

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the N810!

I use my N800 for taking notes in class with a Thinkoutside bluetooth keyboard. I tried to use the Abiword port but found it too buggy to use and in a note taking environment to lose anything is disastrous. Ryan (Megabyte405) is working on a new port which I believe is much more stable than the version out right now.

I use the built in notes application which saves in html format or I use google docs if I have wifi support.

An added benefit is recording an audio version of lectures using maemo recorder which has saved my butt on numerous occasions.

If you ask me, Abiword is the best word processor for either N800 or for a PC! Regarding stability, read the comments on the previous link as well as in the ITT thread. Check out if a simple but stable editor like MaemoPad can get your job done. Have a look at Maemopad+ too:
