I need help with flashing my n900 using ubuntu. I tried following the instructions on the wiki but it is complicated. Can some post step by step on how to do this. I would really appreciate it.

Just take your time, read them through before you start, google/etc anything you don't understand....

once I download the flasher-3.5 and the firmware file the wiki doesn't say where to save these files and that where I am stuck at.

surely it doesn't matter, you just give the file path as the firmware image
eg.
sudo flasher-3.5 -F /opt/flasher/RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
eg.
sudo flasher-3.5 -F /opt/flasher/RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
