Ok well a few days ago, I turned off my n900 and went to sleep. The next morning, it wouldn't turn on. I plugged in the charger and after about 5 minutes it turned on with 0% batter. Any ideas why this happened? And no, i wasn't on nitdroid.

Well, since I wasn't there watching your phone all night, I have no idea what happened...
The best thing, I think, you can do is run htop to see if anything is hogging CPU time.
is it overclocked? loads of widgets? left online all night? (MSN, skype etc) ??
need more info

I've had a few instances (both "post 1.3" but i don't know if that's the reason) where the N900 went dead while plugged in to the charger.
I unplugged, replugged and it seemed to charge OK, reporting full within an hour or so.
The next time it happens (I hope it doesn't) what should I write down?
