It only makes sense for the Linux OSes with small market share to combine forces. It will also benefit and benefit from the broader Linux ecosystem since even Ubuntu has started embracing Qt application development more explicitly. http://arstechnica.com/open-source/n...fer-ubuntu.ars

In fact, WebOS 2 already ships Qt 4.6 . And some system binaries link with it...

If two OS'ed ever should merge it should be WebOS and Maemo.

The only thing they need to do is to use MeeGo as upstream code, and since both have Qt it would essentially be the same OS. They don't really need to merge in the traditional sense, they only need to cooperate on the apps department.

My guess is that Ari Jaaksi will start converting WebOS to MeeGo while reinforcing Qt.

Hopefully this means that there will be even more apps for MeeGo/Maemo

Thinking that both OS's got uphill battle ahead of them so having apps that work both ways wont hurt both of them that's for sure.
I'm sure Nokia/Intel wont mind it and now as Ari Jaaksi is leading webOS development i guess it's possible that we will see some collaboration between the two.
I at least hope that's the case.
