Regarding screen protectors, my N800 already had a screen protector on it when i took it out of the box.
I pulled off the tab and used the cover that came on my N800 as a screen protector. I don't think it was designed to be used that way because it scratched up almost immediately and it was too thick causing the touch screen to be less sensitive and inaccurate.

I have since bought a screen protector from Boxwave and it works much better. No scratches at all (the original was covered with vertical scratches from scrolling with the stylus) and just the lightest touch registers. I would only use the cover that comes with it as a temp until you can get a proper one.

My Palm T3 comes with such an application (that's why I know it's possible ), it uses bluetooth to send and receive SMS messages to/from my BT phone. Unfortunately it wasn't useful in the end, because the message would be cut short after the first non-US-ascii letter in the message (I'm in ISO-8859-1 land). And Palm's app. is closed and couldn't be fixed by anyone but Palm, and they didn't bother.. which was actually one of the reasons I sat up and took notice when the rumours started to build about Nokia's new Linux-based internet tablet.
I'm a bit surprised that there's no such application, especially considering that the N800 is built by Nokia and texting (SMS) is one of the primary uses of a mobile phone. I don't know how much I can contribute to such an application, but I'm sure up for trying.

Thanks for the info though!
