True, apt on a broken system does not automagically fix it.

FreeBSD.. fine, but is there any point running apt on it?
And Hurd then.. ok, you can run apt on it, but can you do anything else useful ?
Note that these are not "vanilla" FreeBSD & Hurd, they are Debian ports, ie more or less a full Debian distro only with a non-Linux kernel.
