Like is says in the title, the sound on my n900 does not work at all.
The media player says that the media-format isn't supported, when I try to call someone I can't hear what they're saying, espeak(time) does not speak(time) and when I try to change the volume the yellow bar doesn't even show.
I tried reinstalling pulseaudio but that didn't work.

Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Btw. I don't think it's hardware because I had this problem a couple of days ago and the first two times, I solved it by rebooting. But now rebooting doesn't work anymore.

Thanks in advance,
AhBarnasha

I once accidentally updated the phone with all the repos enabled from X-Terminal, which also killed my sound. The culprit was libsndfile1 which was updated to a version 1.0.20-0maemo1+ogg which seems to be higher than the working 1.0.20-0maemo1+0m5.
So try to find your version with
Code:
apt-cache policy libsndfile1
If you want to downgrade use
Code:
apt-get install libsndfile1=1.0.20-0maemo1+0m5

I had this problem not far back. 99% of the time sudo gainroot followed by pulseaudio fixes it.

Happened to me when an upgrade of a lib file removed - mp-fremantle-002-pr which killed sound dead. I backed up my stuff and reflashed. Sound's fine and the offending file that needs to remove mp-fre... is on the pinned list.
