Having to Reboot your N900 after changing Themes.... Is it really necesarry?

I mean... Seriously?? Rebooting drains the battery and takes time...

Surely theres a quicker way to fully apply a new theme without rebooting the whole device.......?????

I am a mere power-user; not a developer, so I am asking the expert developers of this community - IS THERE A WAY?

Thanks!

First, rebooting does NOT drain your battery in any perceptible way - don't push the myth, you have several battery applications to prove this for yourself on the N900.

When you can figure out how to restart X without the watchdog stuff rebooting the device - get back to us - or rather, get in touch with d-iivil, he's been contemplating this one for a long time.

To answer your question directly, no, it's not possible to apply themes fully without a reboot. And yup, rebooting does take time, patience is a virtue.

Hello, I'm not developer too, but my experience shows me - rebooting is necessary. Firs of all I rebooted every time when I'm changing the theme using Black Plastic Theme. After months I've installed Theme Customizer. I've used only restarting the services, but I think that is not enough. Some of the icons don't refreshed to the new look and it looks litlle bit scrapy.

I'm rebooting my phone since PR1.2, because it lags and was becomes unresponsible sometimes and the reboot was the only good working solution. Since PR1.3 I've noticed that i'm using the phone more than 7 days without lags or freezing.

Now I'm rebooting my phone periodacally once a week during charging and it doesn't take much time.
