There is a $50K contract up for bids through GNOME Foundation (deadline: Nov. 19).
http://blogs.gnome.org/foundation/20...call-for-bids/

This work would make it easier to port Diablo apps to MeeGo.

Does anybody know a consultant putting in one of the bids?

And what should the community do to support this?

Thoughts?

Anyone who attended the BoF session discussing GTK and/or Hildon on MeeGo at the Dublin conference, please chime in.

Now it's decided. Igalia (the original programmers of Hildon) will do the work.

Well, it's good to see that those who actually knows how Hildon works is doing the work (and know what sins they committed while developing it) - hope something useful comes out of it. And I wonder how GTK+3 fits in all this.

My worry is that it doesn't include enough platform support to make most maemo.org extras applications work, which was what turned me off the task at first (I actually had Hildon working on stock GTK+ with wazd's Marina, on MeeGo already)

The weight of supporting Maemo API is hard - so there is bound to be need for rewrites in applications, which may just motivate people to rebuild applications in Qt+QML instead.

It indeed looks as though the work is limited in scope - borrowing from Hildon widgets to improve the user experience of vanilla GTK+ on touch devices, not enabling much for maemo apps compatibility:
