I have the Playon running on my Win7 x64 machine. It is a wonderful addition for streaming all types of media (Hulu, Netflix, amazon, local media, etc.) and the thing it shows without any effort as a pnp in media player. i can see media and play them too.. but horrible buffering problem. Plays for 2-3 seconds buffers and then plays again. I have tried few settings on the Playon server with no observable difference. Has anyone gotten it to work well?

I am also trying to setup Knots but having issues with it as well ..argh!

I experienced the same result with Playon. I emailed Playon asking if there was a setting I could change to reduce the buffering but they answered that there isn't any at this time. So I still use Playon for WMC, but now I use Tversity for the N900.

To get Tversity to work, I changed the device setting from Auto to Flash. While on the home network, music and video both play just fine.

If accessing Tversity from the internet, audio works, but video will only work using KMplayer. The default media player will try to download videos instead of streaming them, so I now just tap and hold video links, and copy them to KMplayer.

I tried settings other than flash, but end up with video with no sound.

Good info, thanks Jeff. You in Minneapolis? Loved the place (more so during spring/summer/fall) when I lived there for ~ 9 years.

Too many media servers running. Let me setup up Tversity at a later time and will buzz you if need additional info. Thanks!

Old thread... but exactly what I have been trying to do this holiday weekend.

Currently I'm on trial period of the Playon UPnP media server. I have Netflix account that I use to play streaming videos on my home theater using Playon UPnP server on my PC and Argosy HV335T media player to display the video on the TV. (It wasn't working until I updated the Argosy to latest FirmWare, but now works great!)

When I try to stream the movies to N900, I have the same problem as described above: The Playon UPnP server is seen on the N900 MediaPlayer. Menus etc work fine and I can browse movies to play. When I try to play any movie, it plays a second and then buffers 2 seconds... There is no setting in Playon server to change any setting to help this issue as far as I can tell. (It has the "Video Performance" setting but it doesn't seem to have any effect.)

I tried several other sources (Hulu, etc...) as well but they do not work any better.

Playon has web browser based "mobile access" option as well, but when I tried that it shows just the list of media sources (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). Once any of them is selected the web interface on N900 gets stuck. By looking at the "UI", it seem clear this "mobile access" is designed for the iThings. Most likely it relies on the app that you are supposed to install on the iThing.

As far as I have searched the Playon is the only UPnP server that supports Netflix, Hulu, etc. as media source. If someone can prove me wrong please do so before I purchase the Playon license.

I'm using Subsonic server for streaming music and videos from my computer to my N900.
Works flawlessly on both wifi and 3G.
You can customize your streams just the way you want them.

GuitarGuru: Thanks for the suggestion. Just in case I'm missing it I don't see how this would support streams from Netflix (needs Silverlight plugin).

I found out that Orb claims to have streaming to TV from Netflix if used with their (costly) OrbTV box.
