Hi,

asked the same question at orb.com forums , still awaiting a reply.
Downloaded and installed orb.com streaming software to my PC running XP windows.
Just installing wifi pci card on my PC.
So how to start up with media streaming from PC to Nokia tablet over wifi or bluetooth ?
If I don't let me firewall orb stramer to connect to Internet , orb keeps Configuration menu option not active, disabling it.
Frankly speaking I see don't any reason for any such action as
ORB still maintains I can stream media from PC to my Nokia tablet
as Internet link is off (remote orb server is off ),
running it as a desktop wifi show only.

So please tell me, step by step, how to enable such installation.
I intend to use Media Streamer already installed on my Nokia.
Do I still need to install orb software on my Nokia to pair with PC running orb server ?

Thanks.

Darius

I believe orb needs an internet connection to function correctly. (you can't visit the mycast.orb site if you haven't)

But if your device is on the same network, it won't stream over the internet, it will stream directly to your N800.

Only the webpage is accessed over the internet. There probably is also a direct url to your locale PC, but if that functions just as effectively, I don't know. (a lot of the features of orb are server site: like the speed measurement, so requires an internet connection)

-Install orb on PC
-start orb on PC
-browse to your orb webpage using the N800
-select any of the files you would like to play using that webpage.

if your N800 uses a different internet connection (using your phone or another wifi connection), make sure that the media stream from your PC is accessible to the outside internet. You may need to enable uPNP on your wifi router, or map the right ports to your orb PC.

So you don't need to install anything on the N800.

Orb not only shares your media files using a webpage (transcoding the files to be used on any device), but also on a uPNP media server share on your network. This is probably what the orb guys are saying that you don't need an internet connection for. The problem is that I don't believe orb transcodes the files. So a lot of video files won't be viewable on the N800. (please correct me if i'm wrong)

A lot of programs on the N800 accept uPNP media shares . I believe media streamer is one of them, but I don't think it supports video.

You should also check out TVersity. Not as fancy as Orb, but it doesn't require an outside server for anything.

My vote also goes to TVersity server if N800 and the computer are on the same network. Orb is good when accessing media from a home PC on N800 from the office, but for the same network, it is just too fancy.

Hi,
thanks. TVersity works finally fine in ad-hoc wireless network.
48 hrs non-stop work to setup ad-hoc network and have it done and working.
