Hi. I'm hoping someone can help as I can't seem to find this exact question in power search. What I would like to do is create a desktop shortcut to items other than apps contacts or bookmarks. Speciffically put an audio clip on my desktop. I can't seem to cut/copy because you can't paste to desktop. Is there a way to access the desktop through ssh. Is the desktop under a folder or at the root somewhere? I haven't tried "appmefro" - is it? because what I have seen of this is similar but I think it puts a folder in the menu ( I think I'm right), rather than a single item on the desktop. Can anyone help?

I believe the Maemo desktop uses "widgets" rather than displaying a desktop folder.

If you want to be able to just play an audio clip from the desktop, a QBW can be setup to launch MediaPlayer and a specific file.

Yeah that's true, I didn't think of that. I will have to learn how to use it. Thanks for the tip.

I just made one as a test - it works, but changes what the media player is currently set to play to your new file. Could be slightly annoying.

Would it be too much trouble to ask you how to do it?

No trouble - but I am a self taught non-IT person so bear that in mind...

I used QBW and a Mohammed A-G script/app called Phone-Control.
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=60251

I don't think Phone-Control is a prerequisite, as it seems to be a way to shortcut the more lengthy Phone Control scripts - so MA-G's script lets me write "phone-control --mp-play" instead of the command at http://wiki.maemo.org/Phone_control#...n_media_player (as an example)

Made a new QBW and made the command:
phone-control --mp-play /media/mmc1/sounds/song.mp3 (Note that that this will be the path to the mp3 you want)
Or you could copy and paste from the link above for the long form of the command.

http://wiki.maemo.org/Queen_BeeCon_Widget will give you all the info you need to then setup how your QBW looks, how to make backgrounds/messages hidden if you want

One numpty confession - I chose a song with a single word as a name, because I can't remember how to put in file names with spaces in them...

Anyway - hope you enjoy. QBWs are addictive.

Open browser, type file:/// in your url bar, navigate to the folder where your music is, find the link to the file you want, long press it, save bookmark. So you get a bookmark to your music file and in my setup when I press it I get mplayer starting with my tune (ymmv). Of course you can copy your special bookmark to the desktop.

@Beatty - Thanks very much for taking the time to do that for me. I will have a go because I have been meaning to learn qbw for a while now.
@debernardis - I forgot about that. Thanks. An easier way just for what I want.
I will try both ways. Thanks for all the help.
