There are some benefits of using GTK, like porting apps.
Right now, we have the best of both.

How so? If you're porting GTK apps then yeah, maybe. If maemo had used Qt then porting Qt apps would be just as "easy".
And also the worst of both worlds since there is the bloat of both GTK and Qt libs. Not helped by the fact that Nokia is infamous for putting too little RAM in their devices and crippling their potential.
