As someone mentioned before that the release of the new N810 and the 2008 OS upgrade will be on the same day have a look at Play.com. They offering the new N810 to pre-order including release date 28/11/2007.

Seeing 11/28 and 12/12, I keep waiting for MobileCityOnline to change their date. They still have 11/23 as their ETA (noted as of today 11/6):

I'm their 23rd pre-order. Last I spoke with them, they were expecting a shipment of 50.

The latest OS2008 build is VERY stable for me now, which it was not as recently as a few weeks ago. So I am confident the feature set is indeed frozen and bugfixing/fnetuning is taking place, as it should. Also battery life is getting better and better (I was worried for a while there). Sorry I cannot provide further details.

I wouldn't trust Play.com's dates very much at all, TBH. I've no reason to not believe the "mid-November" which was originally promised. Just hoping it's the earlier bit of "mid" rather than the later

I would hope that they would release OS2008 as an open beta before the release of the N810 and regular GA.

Only the brave would load it up... so it would give Nokia a larger base of beta testers.

Although we all know that you would get the people that would mess it up and do it wrong... then complain and moan from now until the end of time. (So you have to ask... are they that bereft of intelligence or are they trolling?)

There are pros and cons to releasing the OS betas to the public (even a select group), and it looks like for whatever reason the decision is that the cons outweigh the pros. I don't know enough about that situation to render an opinion either way.

Yes, it can be bad. They could make an open beta that you must register for...

You would need to provide a reason; perhaps show other beta programs you have participated in.

Or there is always the 'unofficial' leaked beta that is not 'condoned' but also not frowned upon. That way it is not 'official' and requires no support. (officially... but they would still take bug reports.)

but it's academic because nokia is keeping tight tabs on this. We'll get it when it is ready.

I wouldn't release the updated software before the n810, would take some of the focus away from it, which would be a bad thing for Nokia.

...But as far as we know from Tex, N810s are just waiting for OS2008 to be ready, not the opposite
