POI Bug found: When I rotate the map clockwise, the POI will disappear after three clicks (press arrow key to rotate three times). So I lose visibility of POIs. Will test driving to work today with auto-rotate to see if problem still occurs.

UPDATE: The auto-rotate reproduce the same bug once the map rotated enough times (3 clicks from north to northeast) before the POI would disappear from the map. To add, I noticed when manually rotating the map if I start with it pointing North in its default setting and rotate counter-clockwise, it disappears immediately while rotating it from North position and clockwise it would not disappear until about 3 clicks towards Northeast.

I see exactly the same from GPS locations taken from a Garmin handheld and entered manually - both in Google Earth and in Maemo-mapper. That's why I am convinced it is a mislocation in Google's data.

But I will also try a downloaded route, later today.

That track was recorded in northern Trinidad, 10.6N 61.3W.

I frequently use geographic data and handheld GPSs in my job. I know from experience that Google Earth and Maps can have errors like this.

This thread is almost as useful as maemo-mapper itself.

Maybe we can turn it into an FAQ.

I've never created a route before. Any suggestions how to go about it.

I want to make a route for the same bit of map I showed before. Google Maps said it couldn't calculate a route for me. I also tried a web-site called digipoint (http://www.zonums.com/gmaps/digipoint.html), but that only gave me waypoints. I created waypoints at various road intersections - you can see how well these plot in Google Earth below.

Digipoint uses Google Maps, so it's not really surprising that they agree.

Anyone else experiencing this?
Which version are you using? If it's 2.0.1 or 2.0.2, then this bug was fixed in 2.0.3. If it's 2.0.3, then I must have missed something....

I think I know why this happens. I'll fix it in 2.0.4. Thanks for the bug report.

This may be a very newbie question. I can download the poi, and I can view them in a list. However, how comes they don't appear on the map?

There's an option in View->Show to enable/disable POI view.

I understand that this is not a maemomapper fault, but if it's used with kagu, would it be possible to pause reproduction or lower music volume when voice announcements are made?

I solved the problem by restarting the system.

Just another note of thanks for maemo-mapper. I used 1.x on a 3000+ mile car trip over about 3 weeks this summer, and it was flawless. 2.0 is looking even better, although personally I'm not sure I like rotation - that's rotation in general, not your implementation. I learned to read a map long ago, the right way!

Kudos for a truly outstanding piece of software and the support for it.
