I am getting an odd error whenever I try to install something. When I try to "Install new", I get the message

Unable to install PACKAGE.
Component is built-in.

Substitute whatever package I'm installing for PACKAGE.

This happens no matter what I'm trying to install. And it just happened in the last week. Last week I installed gnumeric.

Any clues? Thanks.

I've had this happen when trying to install packages I'd built myself, and got it wrong, so it served me right.

Was gnumeric the last package you installed that worked OK? And which was the first you tried that failed? One or the other is probably to blame.

Have you rebooted? (power on with no charger plugged in and with the "home" key pressed down)
