Which GPS receiver do you use? Which version of Maemo Mapper are you using? Did the problem appear after upgrading to a new version (if so, from and to which versions).

Now I'm realizing that all I want is an offline version of Google Maps and I'll be truly happy. But I guess Maemo Mapper can't help me with my needs... :-(
You are correct. Maemo Mapper can draw previously cached maps, but it cannot fetch new maps, generate routes, or search for nearby POI without an internet connection.

POI Bug #2:
I have multiple POIs on the maps. I click on one of the POIs to View/Edit and change the category. I click on a 2nd POI to do the same thing and click Save. Each time I repeat the steps above, MM crashes on the 2nd attempt to change a POI's category.

Edit: I had custom category images installed hence why I was updating my POIs. That might have or been part of the problem.
1. Thanks for the bug report; I'll look into it.
2. You can change the categories of POIs en masse using the POI List, accessible via the "Browse POI..." menu item. This may be easier than selecting each POI separately and using View/Edit....

Gnuite,
I am experiencing issues with the GPS/MM. It seems after initially using MM w/ my GPS, the next time I use it, MM will start tracking for about 5 seconds and then stall. I can restart the GPS tracking and it will repeat the same problem. To resolve the issue, I have to reboot the device and its good to go again.

P.S. I just want to say that I know I am reporting bugs lately but don't take it the wrong way! I love your program and use it ALOT!! I am even setting it up these days as part of testing and figuring out its new features for my next two big road trips for the holidays. You do great work Gnuite!

First off Gnuite, I have to say that I really appreciate this new release. Most of the issues I'd had with 1.4.x are gone, save the occasional time where it won't start, but even that is not that big a problem. The only issue that I've seen recently was when I tried to get into the settings dialog while the GPS (a globalsat BT359) was active and it crashed the program. Not a big issue and one that can easily be worked around.

I am also a member of the Open Street Map project and that leads to the main reason I finally got around to registering here. One of our other members had observed that we are seeing a fairly large number of requests for non existent zoom levels on our servers and after some investigation I discovered that one of the many sources appears to maemo-mapper, due mainly to the recent increase in the maximum zoom level.

Open Street Map only renders tiles to an equivalent of zoom=4 (which is also used for zoom=3), which on OSM's tile server is a zoom level 17 tile. However maemo-mapper's zoom=2 requests tiles from the /19/ zoom level which doesn't exist, and zoom=0 requests from the /21/ zoom level. Is there any way that a maximum level option could be set per repository, to prevent someone from requesting a range of zooms for an large area and hammering the OSM tile server with literally tens of thousands of invalid requests? This may not be too big an issue with larger map providers such as google (although they do limit on a per-client basis after a certain point as I understand it), we have only a finite amount of server resources and are trying to get the word out to the authors of the various tools that may be the source of some bad requests.

Thanks for your great work, and I look forward to hearing back on this.

gnuite,

Sorry for taking so long to answer. Wasn't sure if I had noticed it with 2.0.3. I think there may be a problem. Similar to before, when traveling on a straight highway, on course, every few seconds I get the message that it's downloading another route. This is with 2.0.3

I had to recreate the directory structure (Per rcull's sugestion) in order for MM to recreate the database. Once I did that there was no longer a problem.

Gnuite, this might explain why MM gives failure messages when trying to download/process low zoom levels (I've reported this earlier here). It happens with Google Maps though in my case.

So, now you have a free N810 heading your way, Gnuite, will we see an IT2008 port soon? I'm certainly looking forward to one!

I managed to install MM 2.0. When I try to load it, it says "the current repository is in a legacy format ..." and it does not load.
I tried to delete every map I had, but it seems that something is left.
How can I clean the repository? Where should I look?
Thanks
