I have no idea what that error message actually means (not getting DHCP info, not being able to resolve DNS, something else ?), is it given by the browser or by the phone OS when connecting to the ad-hoc network itself, are you using WEP ? if so try without it.

hello guys..
i have been trying to use mobile Hot Spot for a while now, it always gives me the same error (failed to start)
i can't install enhanced kernel for power user , because it says its conflicting with other packages
and the "backend.py" file, when i tried 2 install it via terminal, it asks me for a password.

can anyone please help me out with this ? because it will really benefit me to get this up and running

thank u very much !

You must have kernel-power (aka "Enhanced kernel for power-users"), without it MHS (Mobile HotSpot) simply cannot work.

So you need to figure out and resolve what is your problem with kernel-power first (ask around in the kernel-power threads).

Hi,

sorry if I am repeating an already made question.

I can connect (via auto usb in ubuntu, using n900 as host ) but I can't browse. I can ping, but have no answer (100% packet loss)

Any ideas?

How do I properly use MHS?

Maybe I do something wrong?
This is what I did:
I could start and set it up.
Then on the N900 I choose the AddHoc connection with created before with MHS.
After a while the AddHoc icon gets steady.
On my Laptop (Kubuntu 10.10 as well as Win XP) I search for a Wifi connection with the same name.
Both OS on the laptop can find it and try to configure it, but they never get an IP.
I even tried it under linux manually with "dhclient wlan0", but it runs into an timeout.

Note:
I already for a while use the USB routing as described here [1] to get internet via GPRS for my laptop.
Now I would like to do the same via wifi instead usb cable.

wireshark and tcpdump. I have seen this sometimes (and heard of it) but the only way to debug is the way you do low-level network debugging in general and unless you already know how to do it I would not suggest starting the learning with this case (OTOH I can definitely recommend learning networking skills, never know when you need it [like for example if your goverment shuts down all communications; it's good to know how to rebuild...)

Is this working for anyone on pr1.3?

I can setup the network with no issues, but when I try to connect from my device it never connects.

For me it's working without issue. Do you have installed power kernel?
