Hi,
I am having the T-Mobile web plan and a nokia 5300 express music bluetooth phone. I dont know how to pair it up with my new N800. Can someone please let me know about the same.
I have the $5.99 tmobile web plan for browsing.
Thanks

I think you may have to upgrade to the 19.99 plan to get past t-mobile's web proxy and onto the www. Pairing is just a matter of enabling bt on the 5300 and having the n800 sniff it out from the control panel. beyond that, you may not be able to browse due to limitations imposed by the 5.99 plan's connection. check out the howard wireless forums, and search this forum for more. good luck. please post your progress.

I got the 5300 unlocked bought it on e-Bay for a year now but I have AT&T network. Anyway, its easy to pair it with N800. Make sure your N800 BT is on so it can detect the 5300. Go to settings, connectivity, bluetooth - select on, paired devices, options - pair new device. If it detects the N800, click select (sometimes it ask for a password but the default for Nokia is 1234 unless changed). Voila its done!

I had a talk with T-Mobile tech guy... he told me that I cannot use it with their 5.99 plan as it is only for the mobile... i have to get a 20 bucks plan for accessing internet and using my phone as a modem in that case! i tried connecting n5300 but it showed message to get data transfer connection

chendur007,
Of course the T-mobile guys won't acknowledge that it is possible to tether your phone to share the $6 T-MobileWeb plan; either they don't know it is possible or they don't want you to do it. After all, it is against their policies.

I briefly used a Nokia 6230 to share the T-MobileWeb with a Sharp Zaurus (an earlier Linux handheld device). While on the Zaurus I had to use configuration scripts and the command line, it did work in the end. On the Nokia tablets it hopefully should be a more straightforward (graphical) setup.
Setting the proxy is the key to making this work. Take a look at the HowardForums wiki for more info. While on the Zaurus I ended up setting the proxy for each individual application, there may be a way to set a "global" proxy when the Tmobile connection is used.

Coincidentally, I also have a 5300 and the T-MobileWeb plan. My first Nokia tablet (n810) is on order, so I definitely have an interest in getting this setup working. While I have no technical knowledge of Linux, my previous research and intermediate networking experience may be helpful.

Yes, this does work...T-Mo knows the least about their own system of anyone!

To pair, on your phone and n800 in the Bluetooth settings you need to make them visible to each other. Then you should be able to pair them. It is pretty straightforward.

To set up the tmobile connection, you need to go to Tools/Control Panel/Connectivity, click "connections", and "new". Use these settings:

Type: gprs
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Dial up #: *99#
Click "Advanced"
Use Proxy: yes
http proxy: 216.155.165.50
port: 8080
https proxy: 216.155.165.50
port: 8080

in "other" tab/Supplemental AT commandsEnter the following:

at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

click ok, then finish and you should be good to go.

I use 5.99 plan, an n800 tethered to a Nokia 6103, and also have tethered successfully to a RAZR v3.

By the way I have good friends who work for t-mobile...this is not against the rules. Those paying for 19.99 service have a much faster connection as well as no port restrictions. They are not restricted by the proxy. i've been tethering for about 14 months with no problems.

Cheers.

Jmancine,
Thanks for the info! Those settings definitely look familiar. I look forward to trying this on the n810 whenever it arrives. I didn't mean to say that tethering with T-MobileWeb is against the rules, but it is definitely not officially supported. HowardForums is rife with reports of problems connecting this way, although much of that may be due to user error. My point is, YMMV.

I noticed that the ITT Wiki has no phone connectivity settings for North American carriers. If no one else gets to it before me I will take care of that, at least for T-mobile.

hi! i'm curious...if i got the 5.99 data plan going....and I'm in Seattle, if I go up to Canada, will I still be able to access the data plan?...or will it roam to get the data??...I know T-Mobile roams onto Rogers in Vancouver Canada....but, wondering if data works the same as voice...
