I noticed Patriot has a 16GB SDHC flash card out, and there is talk of a 32GB version coming out soon, I'm wondering if the N800 would unofficially support them, or if it's limited to 8GB by a filesystem/address limitation?

Thanks

Is that with dual 16GB cards or a single one?

How do you know? Have you tested? (im interested in getting one)
And will the N810 work with SDHC card larger than 8GB?

Using the latest firmware: Internet Tablet OS 2007 edition (version number 4.2007.38-2).. The N800 works just fine with 8gb and 16gb SDHC Patriot cards.. I have the 16gb as internal and the 8gb in the external slot. Dunno about the 32gb working as none are availiable in my area yet.

As for the N810... since it doesnt use full size SD cards.. you get "One MiniSDHC card slot for up to 4 GB (and later 6GB and 8GB) additional storage".. so you will have to wait longer untill manufacturers make larger sized miniSDHC cards. Personally I am sticking with my N800 because of the "capacity neutering" of the N810.

.... thats all I have to say about that.

8GB micro SD cards are on the market now for ~$150. I dont think mini SD will ever really catch on because micro has the physical size advantage and normal SD has the capacity advantage. It's easier to just include a micro to mini adapter.

There are no such limitations in the operating system (the kernel and the filesystem) itself. The SDHC format seems to be limited to 32GB, so there's one limit. The FAT32 filesystem type probably has another limit, so there's one more. But if there were a kind of SD card available with a size of 2 TB[*] then there's no reason it wouldn't work just fine in the N800, if you formatted it to use the ext2 filesystem instead of FAT32.

There have been some problems with (in particular) SDHC cards, which could cause data/card corruptions. This has been resolved in the latest OS revision, but technically speaking the problems were caused by cards not fully following the SDHC specifications. Thus, Nokia is presumably a bit conservative with what they 'officially' support, but as mentioned above all types of cards should work as far as the filesystem/addressing is concerned.

[*] a 2TB card may however need another type of card entirely, with different number of connectors etc. This was just for illustration. I would be fine with a 120TB card in my internet tablet though, I have applications in mind already.

Yes, that Vulcan Database becomes more and more enticing, doesn't it?

Yep, didn't think of that, but of course the N800 has two SD slots so I should still be fine!
