Did you alrady flash it succesfully? (EMMC also) The latest firmware is probably the way to go, IMHO the stabelest thusfar.

Did you check the outsides for dents and scratches? The build quality (don't get me started about USB port however) of the N900 is pretty good, and if overclocking could have harmed your device you'll probably have more issues performing heavy tasks, but that locking could be a hardware problem. Try locking it via power key and then lock screen, to rule it out.

Where do you live, and what about warranty? Knowing that the n900 came out less than 2 years ago and many carriers offer a 2 year warranty, (or it was nkia factory warranty, not sure) that should be worth a try if it cannot be resolved by software.

Come on guys, its a N900 he got. Theres a good chance he made right deal if there is no major HW flaws no?

IMHO you shuld have gotten suspicious when someone offered to trade in a N900 for a N97. That's like getting a half empty can of beer for a Pom Perignon!
i totally agree except for the name "DOM" perignon

Hi again and thank you for that many responses, I will try to answer all your questions, and have to say in advance the story has a sweet and sour ending...

I'm Spanish and live in the Dominican Republic and the guy was selling the phone, not trading it, it was selling it for about 200€ so it was not exactly cheap, the price was neither low nor high, just ok.

I offered him a trade for my N95 plus about 100€ and he refused, but I added 20€ more and finally accepted, but when we met he saw my N97 and offered me to swap our phones, but I also had to give him 1000 pesos (20€) so it was a fair trade.

About all the speculation of the overclocking thing, I have to be honest, the guy was a taxi driver here in the DR, and had very basic education, so I'm sure he even doesn't know what is overclocking, he told me the N900 was a little difficult to use so he wanted another more user friendly handset....

I guess he wasn't the first owner anyway, the phone is in very good condition except the metallic frame around the screen that has some scratches but the battery cover is in perfect condition. The guy told me that the phone was coming from Spain but the product code is from USA, so here is the first lie... also the charger and the microUSB cable are not original but coming from a Motorola...

Going back to the technical side of the post, I flashed both eMMC and FIASCO images in the order described in the tutorial and the handset is in its factory state now.

So I'm going to explain how I "solved" the problem: the last global firmware didn't work (phone freezing all the time and the power and lock buttons issue) and the PR1.2 USA firmware worked almost perfectly except for no GSM coverage....

So I decided to download another firmware, this time the PR1.2 Global (RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM), hoping this way I would have the best of both previous firmwares tested, and God it worked... Now the phone is working almost perfectly and I can make and receive calls, these are really good news for me

It's clear that the phone has a ¿hardware? problem because the latest firmware had to work ok, and now it still has a couple of issues:

Most of the times the phone boots ok but sometimes it can't access the internal flash memory, I get memory access errors when trying to take a photo (I can't take photos), and if I try to listen to music or video the player says I have no files (and that's not true) if I go to file manager it can't access the memory either (no folders and no files) and every now and then it randomly reboots. I solve this issue with a simple reboot and then it can access again the memory and make photos again.

I'm going to leave the phone with this outdated firmware because it's the only one that works almost ok (and this is the firmware that was installed when i traded the phone) I can't figure out the way of having the latest firmware, After so much testing I think there is a hardware problem with the internal memory causing these strange behaviours... What do you guys think about this? and... Is there a way I can access the OVI store without updating to the latest firmware? because every time I try to open the store it says I have to update... THANK YOU VERY MUCH

if you access the store from a browser you can choose the software you want and then send an sms to the phone to download and install it..

this way I think it won't ask you to update.

I'd try PR1.3 USA - Not much is different, and there are some good stability fixes.

If it continues to crash, we can try a few things - Including mild overvolting, just in case.
