We are looking for a Software Developer join the OS&Adaptation SW test team. Working in collaboration with other Nokia R&D teams across the globe, you will ensure the quality of US market specific cellular features. Your job is varied including setting up and maintaining test automation system, developing test automation, running manual test cases on specific features, reproducing and triaging errors while capturing traces and logs, and verifying error corrections. As your competence grows, you will take on more responsibilities in finding the root causes for errors. Beyond regular testing activities you will do exploratory and field testing.

Qualifications

To apply for this role, you have a relevant Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience in software testing, Masters Degree preferred. Software development background and experience of mobile phone SW testing in Linux environment is a MUST. Your toolbox of skills includes fluent programming skills in C, C++ and Python in Linux environment, as well as experience of SW test frameworks (like check) and testing automation tools. You have a proven track record of triaging and finding root causes for errors. You do not hesitate to dive deep into our vast source code base. Working experience with Nokia cellular modem and related tracing tools would be beneficial.

You have good communication and presentation skills and can express yourself fluently in written and spoken English as this will prove essential in our international company. As a person you have a proactive and independent way of working and enjoy a changing environment. Some your colleagues will be located abroad, so taking initiative solving day-to-day issues and excelling in communication is a must. Additionally there is a need to participate in some early morning / late evening teleconferences.

Intel “remain committed “

We asked Intel for a statement and we got this.

While we are disappointed with Nokia’s decision, Intel is not blinking on MeeGo. We remain committed and welcome Nokia’s continued contribution to MeeGo open source.

Our strategy has always been to provide choice when it comes to operating systems. MeeGo is one of those choices. We support a port of choice strategy that includes Windows, Android, and MeeGo. This is not changing.

Where does that leave MeeGo?

The Linux Foundation own the MeeGo brand, take care of the contributions and offer it out as an open-source solution. That hasn’t changed. Linaro, the ARM-focused organisation that can assist ARM product designers to match MeeGo to specific ARM-based platforms is still there. Nokia are still contributing. Intel are still contributing. Intel are still building platforms and services for MeeGo. MeeGo remains one of the best cross-product solutions based on Linux and is the only solution that includes dedicated hardware, development environment and (if AppUp for MeeGo launches at MWC as we expect) applications store. It is still the ‘complete stack’ solution I mentioned last week. What does happen is that Nokia now can’t be relied on as someone that will put a strong brand on a range of MeeGo products. Intel lost a launch partner.

The first smartphone in the Meego is used should be the high-end device Nokia N9. Nokia originally wanted to present the N9 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. According to analysts, the Finns could, however, another, as yet unfinished Meego device at the world's largest wireless trade show or to present a week later at an event in London.

Nokia (NOK1V.HE) has ended development of its first smartphone using its new MeeGo operating system before it was ever launched, two industry sources close to the company said. A spokesman for Nokia declined to comment.

Analysts said Nokia could still show the next MeeGo device, even if unfinished, later this week at its investor day in London on Friday or news conference in Barcelona on Sunday.

imo nokia will release a meego phone just like it was with maemo. a single model with not much support.
anyway we have better luck with other brands. I just hope chinese manufacturers start to use meego. then the world will be a better place.

By now you’ve probably heard that today, Nokia announced a new relationship with Windows focused around handsets and Windows 7. While Nokia mentioned they will still participate in the MeeGo ecosystem and ship a MeeGo-based product this year, they outlined a primary strategy strongly aligned with Microsoft.

Although Nokia has been an important partner to Intel and MeeGo and we are disappointed by this decision, it’s important to know that this is by no means the end of MeeGo or the end to Intel’s commitment and the continued progress MeeGo has made and is making to the multi-device ecosystem.

Our strategy has always been to provide choice when it comes to operating systems. MeeGo is one of those choices. We support a port of choice strategy that includes Windows, Android, and MeeGo. This is not changing.

There is a solid value proposition for an open source OS that crosses different devices. End users want a consistent experience across all of their devices. MeeGo is a great solution to deliver that single experience.

MeeGo is not just a phone OS, it supports multiple devices. It is already shipping and we’re seeing early momentum across multiple segments today, including automotive systems, netbooks, tablets, and set-top boxes.
