Reading through this thread was actually rather interesting.

I'm obviously disappointed and wanted to see a Nokia Meego phone, I've half jumped on the Android bandwagon (still use my N900, but have a galaxy tab as well) and I've been tossing up between waiting for the the n9(-00/-01/whatever) and moving to an Android smartphone (This made the decision a whole lot easier.)

However does the decision really surprise anyone? Symbian has no future. Trying to improve Symbian is kinda like having a holocaust themed amusement park, wondering why nobody is coming through the gates, and saying "maybe we need to build bigger rides..".
There is too much history and negative press to ever get people interested again except for maybe the fanatics.

With Meego, Elop has probably gotten considerable 1 on 1 time with the device Nokia had planned, we haven't even really seen it yet... so to the people saying "whyyy????? " ....because obviously in the state it was in the device was crap (not competitive) and releasing another N97 is only going to send Nokia further down the toilet.

So I guess rather than wishing the N9 was released, I wish the N9 was good enough to be released...

Oh well... Android here I come

Anchor hits them at their head and the ship sinks even deeper (to oblivion)!

There is NOTHING Elop did after he joined as CEO.
It is probably more likely that the decision was taken before and he has been hired for executing it. The guy who hired Elop, what is that guys name? He seems sold to me!

At this point, I would even go ahead and say that CHEAP memo was written before he came to Nokia.

But one thing to Microsoft, well played. They again showed the world why they are the best!

See their execution, isn't it awesome! They just bought a company like Nokia for peanuts! Kudos there!

And in honesty, I wish failure for this partnership...

I have it on good authority that when Mr. Elop toured the MeeGo smartphone development facility for the first time after becoming CEO to view the progress that had been made, he was more than a little taken aback at what the company's $300 million R&D spending had bought it so far:

The low-end Symbian replacement phones also seemed to be a little lacking... or just little...

Hey Texrat, we missed you! I see that in your last actions here, about a week ago you called a claim that Meego was the biggest joke in the industry "idiotic" and soon thereafter closed the thread.

Do you still feel it's idiotic?

Any other comments on current events?

I still think the claim was idiotic, and I don't recall closing the thread. If I did there was a reason. But I'm thinking I'm once again blamed for the act of another.

My thoughts on Nokia's change: http://tabulacrypticum.wordpress.com...1/meego-limbo/

I think this is a wake up call to MeeGo.

It will be MeeGo's 9/11.

The supporters' resolve will be emboldened and (hopefully) they become more pragmatic in executing MeeGo.

Intel will take up Nokia's MeeGo resources (people) and carry on the development.

Nope. That's why I've repeatedly considered this strategic partnership flawed and seemingly backwards.

Unlike any of these reality lacking folks, WP7 is pretty much a flop. So was KIN. So was Maemo.

Sure, the last one was a "developers" platform or whatever reasoning makes folks sleep better at night (it wasn't meant to be a mass-marketed device, Nokia wasn't clearly at step 5 out of 5 or whatever); however WP7 is perhaps the worse match for Nokia at this moment.

Hell, WebOS is a better match - and that's because it's not at an initial release like WP7 is and it's gathering attention and features better than WP7 currently has.

There's no distortion here dude. I don't like this match up. Now, let's hope that Microsoft adds features that folks want to WP7 in record time - and not three months for just copy and paste (due next month).
