Anyone know where I can find it?
Maybe one of these:
http://repository.maemo.org/
chinook | free non-free

or

http://maemo-hackers.org/apt
chinook | main

There's also a mistral repository for maemo-hackers. Anyway, I got it installed. Seems to be working fine. Even gpesummary works ( gpe's own applet on the other hand doesn't).

Yes the user directory is empty. But there are experimental and daily builds in the chinook repo.

Is there some kind of changelog available somewhere for the OS2008? I would like to see if some wireless problems have been corrected and what were the root cause.
I filled a bug on the bugzilla and would like to know if this is known and has maybe been corrected.
And is the source code already available?

edit: ah yeah I forgot that there is a closed source wireless firmware.. I can always dream for a changelog..

Thanks

has anyone tried a usb keyboard with 2008? wondered if the USB-OTG meant I can replace my spp-bt keyboard with a USB keyboard, or if I should just get a HID-based keyboard

you get libsoup from maemo hackers. I installed GPE calendar from experimental and it runs great on os2008. gpe version on cobb's chinook exp is
$ dpkg -l | grep gpe
ii gpe-calendar 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 gpe packaged with mud
ii gpe-icons 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 gpe packaged with mud
ii libeventdb2 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 gpe packaged with mud
ii libgpepimc0 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 gpe packaged with mud
ii libgpevtype1 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 gpe packaged with mud
ii libgpewidget1 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 GPE packaged with mud
ii libhandoff0 2.8+maemo+svn20071107-1 gpe packaged with mud

The big problem for me is that Erminig wont work. Problem traces back to Python and Glade.

$ erminig
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/erminig", line 5, in <module>
import gtk.glade
ImportError: No module named glade

Oh, I have tried the pypackager in maemo downloads OS2008 section, it still uses glade and so cant be run in OS2008. I am using it for pyaxelwii. I have removed glade dependency in my app..

Why in the world deviate from normal debian apt? Where's the advantage ?

This is what "normal debian apt" does now. It allows packages to more easily modify the sources list.
