I've got a problem and searched this forum a couple of hours and didn't find the answer. I finally updated to the latest Maemo 5 update (PR 1.3?) today, via the apps manager on the N900. It restarted the phone and things seemed ok. I downloaded a game, etc. and the phone worked. When I tried to download a couple more apps, it said something like "Unable to install." So I decided to turn the phone off and on. Then the problem began.
Upon restart, the phone entered a perpetual loop of restarting that never makes it past the Nokia screen (the first screen you see when turning the phone on, white background and blue "NOKIA" in the middle). This screen will say, "Installing software update. Please do not interrupt" on the bottom, then a few seconds later it'll shut off for a split second (screen flashes black), then turn on again to the Nokia screen, and this cycle repeats forever.
Nothing seems to stop this cycle. I've completely lost function of the phone. How do I get the phone working again? Thanks.
