You bought a free invite for £5?

From whom?! Sorry, but I think you just got ripped off.

Open X-Terminal (from the apps) and then type q-spot and hit enter.

And yes: Premium is REQUIRED. Not just Unlimited, but Premium.

It is definitely the case that QSpot requires a Premium subscription in order to work (this is also clearly stated on the initial post in this thread). The problem that QSpot does not open is probably not related to this, however, and the best way to find out the problem error is in case you can start QSpot in the x-terminal and check the error output (start it by typing qspot).

Actually florian made one mistake in his post; you should write qspot in the terminal, not q-spot. =)

And yes, you need a premium account. I think it is mentioned in the program description when you're about to install Qspot.

You could've just registered an account from the Spotify homepage, really free. No need to buy "free" invites. Hopefully you didn't give your credit card number to the seller also. =)

EDIT: Oh, aenbacka got ahead of me. =)

A little info about the forthcoming QSpot version; hopefully it will be possible to introduce the already mentioned seek functionality. In addition to this, it should also be possible to change the playback volume when the device is locked, which has been a requested feature.

Hopefully it would be possible to get the current QSpot version (in extras-testing) promoted to the Extras repo (last I checked it seemed that only one vote is missing for that goal to be reached..).

libspotify 0.0.7 - Welcome ARM
February 12, 2011, 13:59 by Andreas Öman

Today we are happy to announce libspotify’s support for the ARM platform. So now is the time to bring those Beagleboards of yours back on the table and start hacking. On top of this libspotify now also supports querying for the list of playlist subscribers and we’ve filled the inbox feature gap.

Download the new version here.

A short summary of the ChangeLog

ARMv5, ARMv6 and ARMv7 support
Playlist subscribers
Inbox messages and read/modification of track ’seen’ status
Support for creating playlist folders from the API

There is also an important API change in how playlist notification callbacks are handled. Please read the ChangeLog before upgrading your application to 0.0.7 (but that’s something you always do, right?)

The ARM release should be considered beta as we have not been able to run the binaries on proper hardware for all of the three ARM versions released. If you notice anything strange or have a problem, please let us know on our Spotify API forum.

It is indeed really great that libspotify has been released for the arm architecture. From a technical point of view it would be no problem to switch to the official library as openspotify is api compatible; however, the current terns of use does not allow the library to be used on mobile internet devices (and N900 belongs to that category). Florian did post a question about this on the spotify forum, and they responded that they will consider a change to the usage terms. Hope that this clarifies the situation.
