Install icedtea6 from extras.
After that put the java apps somewhere on you n900 eg. in a folder called "java/Minecraft".
The launch the app with:
(Minecraft gets to the login screen but not the game because n900 has no openGL, just used it as an example.)

There are two java emulation programs, icedtea and microemulator.
