It started two days ago. After some time in idle mode I see SIM crossed out in status panel. And only reboot fixes this. But not longer than for several hours.
I just upgraded CSSU to 20.2010.36-2maemo13 and also I didn't recharge my account on this SIM more than month, so it could be anything.

I used to get this on the factory PR1, magically disappeared when I updated to PR1.3 and later, CSSU.

The signal indicator is VERY buggy though, and disappears randomly, however I can still make and receive calls in the 20s-2mins that it's out.

I had this problem and it got worse over time. Unfortunately it was a hardware problem and Nokia eventually replaced the phone after two rubbish attempts to "fix" it.

I never had such a problem before, until about 10 minutes after I read your post this morning. Thanks a lot. :P

First time it has ever happened to me was this morning. My phone account is fully paid up, but my provider (Wind Mobile in Canada) has had some issues with bad SIM cards, and SIM cards getting burned out. My SIM is about a year old, and from the "bad" batch but I've never had any problems... maybe it's burning out now...

And my SIM is about four years old, so maybe it's time to change it, I don't know.
memoryguy, do you use CSSU?

Defiantly try a new sim if its that old. I don't know what the life span of sims are but it could well be a cause.

I'll stick my neck out and state the CSSU has nothing to do with your SIM card problem...
