i have done a search and found 2 threads on this, both old and neither address my problem.

I randomly get this message. My rootfs is 69% full, so there is room, and i can download and uninstall apps without problem. At first i thought this was TwimGo not closing properly, but it also happens if i reboot and don't open that app, or kasvopus. The device was flashed last week to pr1.3, i didn't do the emmc as it was a new device with no data on it.

Anyone experienced this or know how to solve it?

Sometimes nothing, i tap the screen and it stays blank and i hear it beeping periodically, it's only that sometimes it does it with the screen on or eventually lights up that i know why it's done it. Today it did it when i clicked 'update' in appman, but sometimes i won't be doing anything, so maybe it'll be refreshing modest or something

just had to remove the battery for the second time today, it updated my emails about half hour ago, made no noise since and i've not touched it. just tried to unlock it and nothing, no sound, buzz, light, it was like it was off. I plugged the charger in in case the battery was dead, no response. Removed the battery and it came on right away, saying 'unexpected reboot, custom kernel settings were not loaded'.

If it helps, here are some screenshots of Top in x-term

Well, since the first reboot i've not used microB, or any app except conky and modest, and docs to go Word. I'm hoping someone more Linux-savvy can see anything from the Top output.

I had it as well today, for the first time.
it happened while modest tried to open an imap mail.
I think it might be that it run out of memory (RAM), but I did not check.
After closing/reopening modest it worked again.

Part of me wonders if it's Modest causing the problem, i have 4 IMAP accounts setup on there. I've just set it to update manually, so it shouldn't do anything in the background now so i'll see if that affects it. I also uninstalled fastsmsevo just in case that was the reason.

Still, if anyone can make sense of the Top shots that may help
