Hi,

I just entered a few time the wrong unlock code.
it suprised me, that I was able to go on, whitout wait for seconds...
for example:
first time wrong entry, second chance,
second wrong: wait for 5 secs,
third wrong: wait for 30 secs.

just like the iphone and ipod.
is there a way to chance this?

Sorry for my bad englisch

It isn't much safer. You can always dump the memory to your PC for example.

And iPhone's security is a joke

I dont think so,
i flashed my device, while the lock code was disabled,
when i rebooted the device, nothing was ask, but when I at the settings the device code want to chance, i had to put in the old one( the one who was enabled before the flash)

is there any way to "enter lock code" without the numbers actually displaying?

i find this unnecessary that the numbers need to be displayed briefly; it allows people to see your code, say, if you use five 2's or something..

Yea, thats right too, I only enter the code when nobody is watching, they just can see it.

Unfortunately, this software is closed-source.
So, you cannot modify it, without recoding it from scratch.

If you have unrestricted access to a N900 (i.e. you can take it away and do what you like with it) then you can easily (from my point of view at least) get at all the data on it without knowing the lock code. There is also a way to recover the lock code (you may need to flash the phone to gain access to the memory where the lock code is stored).

Therefore the lock code is only good for stopping someone casually looking through what is on your N900 where they might only have 10 minutes or so alone with it, and in that situation they won't be able to work their way through all 100,000 possible codes even without a delay between tries.

If you do need to store sensitive data securely, then use something like Truecrypt to encrypt it, don't rely on the lock code.

A good rule of thumb is that if it intuitively feels secure, it probably isn't. The iPhone making you wait is annoying, but it's not an actual real-security-useful feature.

Also, the iPhone can only take 4-digit lock codes. (If it takes shorter ones, great, but I don't think so.) The N900 takes up to ten digits (though I've noticed the last digit can be wrong and it'll still unlock, at least with my lock code). Which means you have to spend more time trying possible combinations even without waiting.

As for the digits showing, I wish someone did recode the lock screen UI. Give it proper portrait screen support, make sure it processes the lock code properly, and give it an option of not showing what you just typed.

You would need to disable the on-screen keyboard too, since the flash of the last pressed key makes it really easy to see what was last pressed as well.

IMHO, you should always hide the phone/keyboard when entering any password. Shoulder surfing is probably the most common cracking technique.

Meh, while I can appreciate that, I don't think disabling the button lighting up is necessary. If recoded it would be a nice settings option for those who do want it though.
