I have a N800 and just bought a Samsung Blackjack through AT&T with unlimited data. It has a 3G network which works great here in Phoenix. However, I am having problems tethering it to my IT. Has anyone done this and, if so, what settings did you use. I can pair the two through bluetooth but from there I am lost. I am really new at this so any help would be appreciated. thanks to all. This forum has been a great help.

I had a Bluetooth DUN problem getting a new MotoROKR Z6M to connect the tablet....after a successful pairing on all profiles. I went round and round with Alltel for a few days and gave up. The ROKR had my 2GB music memory card in it and I wanted to transfer some of them to the tablet, so I used the tablet's File Manager, clicked Bluetooth and it connected to the phone's memory card. Very curiously, the phone also doublebeeped from this FTP connection and I was suddenly connected to Alltel EVDO on the net! The phone would never respond to the N800 trying to connect to it, before. File Manager's initial connection fixed all that. The ROKR Z6M responds, instantly, to every connection from the tablet's connection box, now, without using File Manager.

Give that a try. Try to get File Manager to connect to your Blackjack by clicking Bluetooth in the File Manager directories panel. Watch for a phone connection at the same time.

Thanks but that didn't work. Everything seems to work. Each device sees the other but it will not connect. I have searched the forums and tried everything I found. Was hoping that someone has done this and could simply give me a step by step guide. Something of a newbie when it comes to all this tethering.

I just got my N800 about a week ago, and I've spent most of that time trying to get this to work too. The good news is - it *DOES* work! The bad news is - it's a bit tricky to set up.

If you're wondering why it doesn't work "out-of-the-box"... The N800 expects a phone to use a Bluetooth profile called DUN (dial-up networking). From what I've been able to find, that's the only type of connection you can create through the GUI. The Blackjack, on the other hand, only provides a connection via Bluetooth PAN (personal area network). It does not support DUN at all.

In the interest of getting the information out to you quickly - the sites I used to get things working are listed below. If you're not familiar with Linux and/or tethering the Blackjack, this probably won't be enough for you to get things working. If you are still in need of step-by-step instructions, let me know and I'll write some (you'll have to give me a day or two to do that).

I think the Blackjack and the N800 make a pretty good pair (especially if you're in an area with 3G service). Browsing on the N800 is much better than Pocket IE on the Blackjack.

You'll also have to run "Internet Sharing" on your Blackjack. You can use "File Explorer" to find it. Go to "My Device" -> "Windows" -> "Internet Sharing"

I am running os2008 and I am still having a problem. I can see the device, I have internet sharing turned on the blackjack, but still no go. What am I missing?

kenotic: I haven't updated my N800 to OS2008 yet - so I'm not sure if it supports Bluetooth PAN or not. I hope I'll have some time to flash OS2008 onto my N800 tonight. I'll post what I find.

i've gotten it to work.. os2007 no problems.. just a bit cumbersome to get it all started..

on the blackjack side you gotta go into the search program and enable searching for allfiles.. including hidden/system files..
--search for "intshr"
--run that with bluetooth pan on
--press connect

on the n800 side you gotta
$ sudo gainroot
# gconftool -s -t string /system/osso/connectivity/IAP/DEFAULT/type DUMMY
--associate with the 'DEFAULT' AP thats now there
--turn bluetooth on
# hcitool scan (this will give you the MAC of the blackjack)
# pand --role PANU --service NAP --connect MAC_you_just_found --nodetach
# udhcpc -i bnep0

i'm trying to write a script to do it all automatically.. i got everything i need except i cant find out how to associate with the DEFAULT dummy AP through the command-line..

if anyone knows how.. lemme know, i'm gonna work on this tonight and if i can figure out the connection-manager part of it.. it'll be a menu/launcher item that all you have to do is click on.. it'll associate to the dummy ap.. turn bluetooth on, scan for bluetooth PAN's and autoassociate with it..

as for the blackjack part of it.. screw searching for intshr everytime i wanna share the internet.. gonna make a shortcut to it on the startmenu.. so everything will be easy enough for my wife :P

that should help you guys.. but lemme know if you learn how to connect to that 'DEFAULT' AP on the command line so i can finish this crap, have fun!

I've installed the application referred to in the article onto my T-Mobile WM6 Dash. Connecting to my Dash from my n800 running OS2O08 beta works perfectly.
