don't know anything about linux but want to try the n800

i am retired on a fixed income and would like to find a way to save the $50 monthly bill for internet ..

i mainly use the net for podcasts (in additon to a little email, money stuff, newsreading etc)

i _hope_ that i can use the n800 to go to the library a couple times a week and download email, rss news, and especially podcasts

i.e mostly i will be downloading and then taking it home for reading

i would certainly add some memory cards etc

my question is this, does the n800 do a fast and efficient job of downloading podcasts and are they easy to access, organize and playback

i am assuming that gmail, rss news and so on _are_ easy to get done or people wouldn't be so happy with this device

any thoughts appreciated
p.s. i did do the required search on "podcasts" but couldn't find much that was helpful to my "non-linux" brain (i use a mac)

There is an application called Video center that can download podcasts to the SD card for later playback. I also use this when I know I will be away from my wifi. It will depend on what feeds to want to watch if they are available I guess

I look at my RSS feeds twice a day so I don't know what it would look like using it twice a week. Maybe it doesn't show all the missed feeds but up to the limit of how many are kept in the feed iteslf.

most of my podcasts are weekly
i do subscribe to a show called coasttocoastam which i pay 60 bucks a year to belong, they have a daily show but i think i might be able to go their website where episodes are posted for clickable downloading
thanks for replying it is helpful to someone who a little nervous about the linux os

I watch only a few pod shows but what I found is that many on the internet can not be viewed on the N800. I think though that with the new OS2008 that many more will hopefully work.

Does anyone other N800 users know more about podshows?

Yes, catfat, there are at least 2 nice applications for downloading podcasts:
PodSync [probably easiest to install & very fast]
gPodder
