open xterminal on your phone and type

apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-generic-pr

i did
apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-generic-pr

this may mean that the package is missing ,has been absoleted ,
or
is only available from anther source
E: package mp-fremantle-generic-pr has no installation candidate

if it's as tele has said, then you might have to face the reality for having a "limited" version of N900
at least you have a working maemo device, not a fake chinese N900 phone
