Hello everyone! I'm here today to ask for help 'cause I didn't find it suing the search function.

My N900 died awefully a couple of weeks a go, the good news is that I had a OS backup on my laptop. But without ana ctual N900 to restore the backup, it's useless to me.

Therefore, I'd like to ask if there's any way to acess the information stores on the zip files of the OS backup? I'd love to recover my contacts or even my SMSs

Thanks to all!

PS: I wish I had used the Ovi Suite instead... LOL

PS2: This is sadly a "goodbye" as well, as in Nokia Spain are asking me 200€ to fix my N900 which I have no intention to pay. So I'll stop being a maemo user

Give this little app a try. Noki.

Even though the N900 isn't in the compatibility list, I can verify that it does work with N900 backups.

There's 2 versions; A free version that only works with 50 contacts (if you've got more than that then it won't recover any, I'm afraid) and a limited number of images and files (I have recovered some images from a backup).

The paid for versin ($49.50) a it expensive for such a small app, but it's better than 200Euro, will recover everything.

PS. What's the problem with the N900?

Thank you for the help. Unfortunately that tool is no use to me.

I didn'd do the backup with PC Suite/Ovi Suite... Mine was done with Maemo's Built-in backup tool (the one with a safebox icon)

I've attached an image of the files I've got.

What happened to my N900 is that it got wt. I tried drying, the rice technique etc but nothing. I got it to turn on, but the touchscreen wouldn't recognize any touching...

tried disassembling it yet? try to disassemble the screen and disconnect all the flat cables, then put them back and try booting, it worked for me after i dropped mine in water/snow mixture..
of course, i did the rice trick and didn't even try to boot after i had dropped it.

Ahhh. OK.
You tried opening those .zip files with an app like 7Zip on the PC?

Of course I tried

but unfortunately contents are .backup and .bin files

If only I knew anyone else with a n900, I could do the trick... but there seems to be no software that'd "understand" the maemo backup files...

I had to send My N900 for warranty repair after 10 months (it would not turn on or Charge) I used Open Office to get some Phone #s from the unzipped DB file in
Root/Root/home/user/.osso-abook-backup/db
not the greatest but better than nothing.
