What is the 1 1/14" by 3/4" inch piece of plastic for on the sync cable used for?

Which piece of plastic? I don't seem to have anything except for the USB connectors and the cable itself.

Mine doesn't have such thing, but I'm assuming you're talking aboit a ferrite bead. It's just a ferrite cylinder placed there in order to clean up interference from the signal.

There's a clip that's apparently designed for holding the cable coiled, but I don't find it to be very usable. It's definitely a clip and not a ferrite bead.

Yes, this clip is what I was referring to in my original question.

I also thought it might be for cable coiling.

With your confirming thoughts, I will now assume that is what it is for.

I don't really see a whole lot of usefullness for it either , but at least it keeps my wires from fallin' behind my desk when I unplug them from the Nokia.

Prolly usefull for coiling up the usb cable when you wanna take it on the road too.
