But I'd be pretty disappointed to drive all the way up there for nothing.

I don't suppose anyone else on here lives in San Francisco and has gotten theirs from the CompUSA yet have they?

Any other stores that might have them sitting on the back shelf somewhere?

They had a thriving store in Sunnyvale, which they cleverly closed when they created the new store in San Jose which was a combined store with some audio/video outfit. I suppose they thought this would help them compete with some of the local superstores likes Fry's, but mostly they
seem to be imploding in the San Francisco/San Jose area. I bought my N770 from them, and would happily buy an N810 from them, if only they were still a viable source. It's really too bad.

It sucks not to have a good source in silicon valley. What an irony :-(

At least you guys have Fry's out there...here we have 1 CompUSA store and a bunch of BB and CC stores...

That is odd that so many tech stores would close out there, though...

Yeah, it is pretty ironic. But I'm certain there is a least a crate of them around here somewhere. I just don't know where. Fry's did have some of the N800's but I don't know if they are carrying the 810 or not. I figured this was the best place to post to find someone who knew where the stash is here in the Valley. Until then I guess I'll just wait and play with OS2008

My closest CompUsa is ... out of state 3 1/2 hours.

Any Floridians out there who by chance know if the N810 is available at CompUSA there? I will be down for a few days and really want a first hand experience before I will consider an order.

Glad you were able to take advantage...but why have it shipped? Just hop in your car and hightail it down IH-35, then you could be playing with it tonight!
Yep, you'd think Austin being the 'high tech' spot, it'd would have been first, but SA is, of course a bigger city. And I'll tell you, man, if I didn't have to work tonite, I'd have made the drive!

I work in a restaurant at nite and can't take off, but oh boy! Tomorrow! Lotsa installing to do

Is there really a zero-dollar limit for goods brought from the US to Canada, for customs? For goods imported through FedEx or UPS, ok, but isn't there a different (and much higher) limit when you physically cross the border yourself and stay over there for a day or more, something like that? That's pretty common for European countries at least.

Better than speculating. Had a moment to look it up:

http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/media/facts-faits/060-eng.html

What can I bring back with me?

When you return to Canada, duties and taxes are applicable on all purchases unless you qualify for a personal exemption. Personal exemptions allow you to bring goods of a certain value into the country without paying the regular duties. If you have been outside Canada for:

24 hours or more, you can bring in CAN$50 worth of goods free of duty and tax; If the goods you bring in are worth more than CAN$50 in total, you cannot claim this exemption. Instead you have to pay full applicable duties and taxes on all goods you bring in.

48 hours or more, you can bring in CAN$400 worth of goods free of duty and tax;

7 days or more, you can bring in CAN$750 worth of goods free of duty and tax.

Alcohol and Tobacco - Restrictions apply to the amount of alcohol and tobacco you can bring into Canada under your exemption. If you have been outside Canada for at least 48 hours and are of legal age, you can bring in these amounts of alcohol and tobacco products free of duty and tax as part of your personal exemption:

.../...

What if I'm away for only a few hours?

If you don't qualify for a personal exemption, you can still bring back any amount of goods - except for restricted items - as long as you are willing to pay the duties and any provincial and territorial assessments that may apply.

Keep all your receipts handy

CBSA officers may ask you to show receipts for the goods you've purchased while out of the country. They may also ask to see your hotel receipts to verify the length of your stay outside Canada. Keeping these items all together and readily accessible will help to avoid unnecessary delays.

Make a full declaration

If you are not sure what to declare when you arrive in Canada, declare all items first and then discuss them with the officer.
Time for an extended weekend in the US

I just picked mine up at CompUSA in Orlando. They don't have it in the computers there and it's not on display, but it's in the glass case where they're displaying the N800 models.
