Hopefully the dinosaurs who keep trying to train people in this deprecated method die off soon. :P

Funny, what seems to irritate people. Anyone who ever learned typing and writing rules has the system of two spaces thoroughly ingrained as a core rule. Pretty tough one to shed after so many years. Odd, if the font issue has actually changed the original rule, then one must really wonder these days why they are still investing soooo much effort in a relic like the QWERTY method for input. A keyboard format that was specifically designed to impede performance (speed) back in the days of mechanical typewriters.

So new rules abound and old systems sadly persist because of inertia and irritation was the theme of these days. Gosh we are cranky lot, considering the tools we now 'enjoy'.

Admit it. The only reason you radicals use one space is to save disk space.

(I lost track of this thread, my point in saying that was because the *real* thing that irks me are internet grammar nazis. You're not going to change someone's writing style by pointing out the fact their post looks like they threw up alphabet soup.)

Don't forget those people who seem pathalogically inclined to put spaces before periods and not after .I really don't understand how or why they do this but they do .I've seen it a number of times on forums, but only met one person in real life who wrote this way and she'd had a pretty expensive education to boot! She was quite scary though, and a definite bunny boiler, which may be a clue .I agree that two spaces is/was the norm with fixed-width fonts (ie. Courier) but only a single space is required when a proportional font is used .

Certainly not. I've had my original IBM PC AT keyboard for the last 23 years, and I intend to get some mileage out that space bar yet.

Right ,but ...out of consistency ,shouldn't you also put spaces before commas ,and not after ?

I'm feeling surprised more then anything. That's the first thing I've written recently where the MacBook Pro keyboard didn't "vanish" some of the characters. I might have to adopt that style permanently, or recommend it to Apple as a workaround :-|)
