Look in the recent postings -- isn't your problem exactly the same as 'rauschd' had? I recommend that you run the same test as I suggested -- to confirm that this is *not* Rapier's fault (?).

I have the same version of python that you said you have based on the test you posted. I guess it could be a python issue, but I can't tell what.

More particularly, even beyond the 'python version' issue, what happens when you try the 'import' command that I had suggested in msg #87 of this thread? If it fails, it would confirm (to me) that some of your Python libraries are missing -- or messed up somehow. If I am correct, then (as with Rauschd) the problem is *not* with Rapier, and (perhaps) deserves a different thread. I think the author of Rapier would appreciate that

It would be great if Rauschd would comment on this i.e. what he did to fix his problem.

from gnome import gconf

I have the same gconf version you mentioned. I'll look for the import command but I've not found that message yet.

I do get the message "ImportError: cannot import name gconf when I try to run "from gnome import gconf" from python. I have no idea why this is occurring or how to fix it. The version of gconf I have matches what you said you have. I didn't see any dependency on "gconf" in the rapier dependencies.

Sorry, I have nothing to suggest as to how to fix it either -- except that we know that 'reflashing' would probably do it, but this is (probably) way overkill for what you want to do. Again, it would help if Rauschd would comment.

As far as I know, 'gconf' just *automatically* is installed when Python is installed. I don't think it has anything at all to do with Rapier dependencies. You appear to have the situation where it looks like 'gconf' is installed (have you verified that?) but when Python actually tries to go *look* for it, it is -- for some reason - missing!

I have verified that gconf is installed and it is the same version you mention in your earlier post. Reflashing is considerable overkill. I have the consistent versions of python and gconf, as you indicated in your earlier post, but that clearly isn't sufficient. I can't see where gconf is installed unless it is part of python, in which case I can't see why rapier can't find it.

The gconf python module comes with the the python2.5-gnome package.

It is located in /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gnome/gconf.so

I do not understand what is going on, as by having rapier depending on python2.5-runtime, it should require python2.5-gnome to be installed too.

The module /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gnome/gconf.so exists in my configuration which is consistent with the reporting of the module I mentioned earlier. I don't understand why rapier can't see it or why it is visible with dpkg but not from python.
