Then again, if the NIT platform is popular enough, those site designers would be the ones wanting to adapt THEIR sites to NIT platform..

No one (company, group, government) is paying enough to pave way for an 'open standard' anything (device, OS, whatever) to gain market dominance. That is just the way things have been, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

That doesnt mean that every goddamn company can have thier own version!!
Look at nokia....... no proprietary format. Nokia is all about values.

Which would mean "Off Topic"? That's where I'd have put it, but we really need a "Rants" forum...

Man, I knew the post would be responded to but to this degree? So much vitriol for a little well-intentioned criticism? Get a life please, there are more important things in life than Nokia or Apple!
The tone not PC enough? Sorry but that was intentional, the situation around n8x0 is so not good, the community so self deluded into strange complacency a horse kick of some kind was badly needed. Admit though as far as horse kicks go this was a soft one, gentlemanly even. So relax a bit please.
Finally let us hope something good will come out of it. n8x0 has some potential as media player and Canola project is a great and badly needed undertaking. And hopefully a decent vector based GPS mapping app will emerge one day. And it looks Maemo people will be doing some major cleaning of their own soon.
I'm not hopeful though for a major rewrite of the OS to provide more consistent/friendlier user interface (touch vs stylus based), call me a pessimist but that appears way outside Nokia competency and not something that a community of enthusiasts is properly suited for. So this will never be as polished as Apple products as disappointing as that is.
So to be realistic, I see n8x0 remaining a generally sloppily supported half-baked product for the rest of its natural life, another tech gizmo to play around with, a perfect little geek toy.
