thanks for the hint. nuking the file made the desktop reboot and rebuild the file to defaults.

not that i found out where the location settings where stored as they didnt appear to be in said file...

It is just the order in which the plugins are loaded. They seem to be loaded left to right, so the first one in the file is on the far left, and the last one is on the far right.

Looks like empathy (the telepathy-based desktop equivalent of Maemo's RTComm) just became installable in Ubuntu armel! Another step forward, at least in my opinion. It requires a massive number of dependencies, however, including all of the gstreamer libraries (which are also now installable, probably not coincidentally) and mysql-common.

I don't know what kind of IM technology they're going to put into Fremantle, and maybe you like Pidgin better, but Empathy is a fairly nice all-in-one IM/VoIP client.

UPDATE: I can't seem to get any of the account types (I tried Google Talk, MSN Haze, and ICQ) to work; they all fail with "Authorization failed"... looking into it...

Posting here too just in case:
I'm working on porting Modest over to Mer along with MicroB since it the microb-engine is a dependency of Modest mail. I was thinking about using claws-mail, but it needs to be hildonized and I don't know a thing about hildonizing apps. I also realize that bundyo is porting tear to Mer, so people won't need microb, but for now if I can get modest and microb working in Mer then we'll at least have the function of maemo in Mer and can continue to work to improve and give further options.

Anyway, I think I'm going to set up microb to use webkit but I'm not too good with this stuff so if anyone might know what the heck their doing...I'd appreciate the help!

Edit: Oh yeah, and I'm in the process of finishing up a semester and buying a house so I'll do my best to get this going, but I can't promise anything since I'm hurting time-wise.

Are you sure? I regularly use claws-mail with diablo, in fact it is available in the extras repository.

Yes : changing the swap partition type to Swap did it for me !!
the first boot configurator found the swap partition and proposed to use it !

It is in diablo, but I need the source code from those packages in order to make packages for Mer. I don't know where those packages are. I might be able to do a little digging and find them, but even it needs a bit of updating: the icons are small and don't match the hildon theme and the look is very inconsistent with the rest of diablo. This needs work to make it blend into Mer better and be more finger friendly. Porting microb and modest won't provide the best functionality out there, but it would at least put Mer on the same level as Maemo.

neatojones: While I like Tear etc, I think Modest and MicroB are good things to have available in Mer. At the very least, it will let people (like me) running a hybrid system (via chroot or whatever) have access to apps they are comfortable with. I didn't realize that they were both open source...

EDIT: Well I'll be darned, there it is! <Ubuntu Modest>
EDIT2: There's an installation conflict between Stskeep's gtkhtml0 package and Ubuntu's libgtkhtml3.14-19. Is there a reason why this package is in two places with two different names?

You can use webkit as a MicroB backend with the webkit-eal project.

Good luck with buying a house! I guess it is a buyer's market right now...

I just installed Modest from the Ubuntu repo and it does work. It's not perfect, but it works.

Maybe we should just leave it (modest) for now?!? Seems like the ubuntu version is more likely to see timely updates/fixes. On the other hand, it won't be installable from the Application Manager in Mer.

And by not perfect I mean: It has a dependecy issue with Mer's gtkhtml as it wants to install the same package with a different name in ubuntu called libgtkhtml.
I couldn't click on all of the entry boxes in the email setup wizard...but I could do enough to set up my account so that it does function.
The icons don't look quite right, but it is hildonized.
Edit: It looks like you found that out already....
