Commercial developers are often not particularly enlightened, but they should WANT their apps pirated. The point is, it should be very inconvenient for users to pirate things. The overwhelming number of users will NOT pirate, because to them it's scary and too much trouble -- when a new version comes along, you have to wait till your friendly pirate makes it available for you.

It is in the interest of commercial developers to make their software difficult but not impossible to pirate, and make software that pirates will like. Pirates don't care what things cost, they just use the best they can get their hands on. Pirate preference influences users. Pirates can effectively be part of the sales organization of commercial developers. (This has been my point of view for many years, haven't dusted it off and said it for awhile.)

Yes, to each his own, but I do prefer black over "licorice brown with sugar accents".

I am all for industrial and blocky design, but really the droid is just ugly.

The back looks bad. No protection for the lens, no kick-stand,
And according to some blogs, the battey cover is no very secure, but that may be a pre-production issue.

And the keyboard is just strange. The designer could not arrange the keys in a better way? There are two dead keys, for no reason. The space bar could just be bigger...

Overall the droid doesn't look that good to me.

The keyboard (and especially the D-pad) is uglier. You have too agree about that one...

The slim size is nice of course, but I think it might lead to overheating issues... oh wait, that's why the device has to be underclocked all the time!

I don't know about you, but I prefer performance above size (just don't mix it up with style).

It's not only the Interface and the memory. As I said in post #53, because of the way it is designed to operate, Android doesn't multitask. Most of the time it pauses applications and then unpauses them.

As I'm using a HTC Hero right now, this is what I can tell you:
- multitask is nowhere near to Symbian or Maemo. It is up to Android to decide what it allows to run longer and for me it turns out to be the wrong decision more times than the right one.
(It closes apps when it shouldn't or keeps apps running, when they should shut down - draining the battery and running my roaming charges high.)

- Adobe Flash, although very close to what was shown for Maemo 5, still misses quite a few online video players. Not a big difference, but I prefer sg, which is closer to full web experience.
(Flash 10 was demoed first on the N900.)

- the 5 MP camera (no photo flash!) is a toy, compared to the Carl Zeiss lens. My older 3 MP (CZ) lens make better pictures than the Hero's, not to mention that I can somewhat use it in the dark too.

I don't want to convince you, as the rest is pretty much up to par b/w Android and Maemo - but I'm switching for the Nokia hardware and the multitasking from Android to Maemo.

Agreed, nothing new to say here.

Flash is at least a temporary advantage of Maemo 5/N900.

Nothing new here either... HTC is known for crappy cameras. It's difficult to make your own, and since HTC doesn't have any professional help (like Carl Zeiss to Nokia), I wouldn't either except anything else.

Remember, HTC is too small for the most lens companies to even give a s#!t about them. And that would also raise the production cost of their phones, thus either lowering their profits, or raising the phones' prices, or both. That's not good business for any of the parts, neither the optical producer, nor HTC. That's also why they order cheap 3rd party lenses.

Yeah, multitasking has always been the strength of the SupermaNs (the world has yet to see a third SupermaN, after the already existing SupermaN95 and SupermaN900 ).

Here is a review of Droid that is not the same "everything is sunny" review as some others.

Agreed. However, I really hope OVI maps comes to the n900 with free turn-by-turn. Even if you have to pay for traffic information and the like... Google really upped the bar with 2.0.
